Blog 05: Swatchy Schemey
Summary:
For this week's blog post, we were tasked to make our very own color schemes and name plates. Throughout the past week, we have learned the importance of color and contrast. While reading I learned how the color value is "how bright or dark the color is" (Beachy). Color can make or break your project. Therefore, "reducing the number of colors we use in our design will make the piece feel consistent" (Beachy). While brainstorming for this specific blog post, I thought of using my rainbow colored dress! I love this dress so much and all the different colors that are incorporated throughout it. I knew these colors would be perfect for constructing my very own color scheme. I first went to my closet and took an up close picture of the dress. I knew I wanted to use the light purple, light pink, and yellow colors for my overall color scheme!
My Color Scheme
I really liked the result of my color scheme. I first designed the colors I saw from the dress into indesign. Once I finished making these colors, I then came up with creative names for them. Such as, baby pink, mauve purple, and sun yellow. I made the first column colors somewhat darker, because I wanted to enhance the colors I saw on the dress. The first column is at 100%. I feel as though the middle colors are the tints that closely match the colors on the dress. I then made different tints for each of the colors. The second column tint level is at 50%, and the last tint is the color at 25%. I think the end result closely matches the colors on the dress nicely.
I incorporated the word "student" as my headline on the nameplate. I chose student because I’m currently a student here at HPU. I am still trying to figure out my career path after school. Overall, I think I did very well putting these nameplates together and I enjoyed creating this assignment. The only nameplate that isn't well contrasted is the pink box with light pink lettering. Therefore, making it difficult to read. I now know not to have a nameplate that uses the same color with only a variation of tint. Although, I did enjoy exploring my creativity through color. Several things I learned was creating new color and tint swatches. Also, the importance of color and how it can enhance and add detail to projects. Therefore, you need to make sure the colors you are using are benefiting your project, rather than drawing attention away from the main focus. I hope to continue using these new skills in our upcoming major brochure assignment.
